Seit seiner Solo-CD „more is more” (2005) gilt er als „center of the next generation of players“. Peter Evans: „This music reflects my continuing compositional interest in a process I believe central to Jazz and American music in general – the continual adaptation and metamorphosis of found materials derived from earlier songs and song forms. In addition to being an interesting way to connect improvisation with fixed materials the players are likely to already have under their fingers, it is also great fun to see what elements of surprise we can squeeze out of something that, on its surface, may seem very familiar.“ Und über ihn und sein Quintett-Projekt liest man nichts weniger Begeistertes als: „… this music is an insane and mind-bending stew of scrambled bebop, disjointed unison rhythms, 20th century nostalgia and hallucinatory live electronics!“, „new and uncompromising music“… oder „The Peter Evans Quintet's Ghosts acts as a sort of back-to-the-future recording – that is, if the present were 2021“ …
