Music with a critical intent? Do the works of the Art Orchestra have anything of the"polemic striking power" that Ernst Bloch sought in Weill's "Three Penny Opera" and its forceful "hits"? In the end, doesn't this lead to a sort of decay that can eat its way right to the core of light music?
The Viennese are not attempting to make a social-critical commentary and are certainly not attempting to make a contribution to the betterment of the world. They are an "art orchestra", not a "liberation orchestra".
