Tues 3.December

21:00 Steve Swallow Quintet USA

Bassist Steve Swallow is coming with an experienced rhythm group to roll out the proverbial red carpet for two young talents. Among Ryan Kisor's credits, he can boast of being one of the trumpeters Wynton Marsalis engaged occasionally for his Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. The 25-year-old saxophonist Chris Potter is a member of Paul Motian's Electric Bebop Band, in which Swallow also participates. Potter, Swallow and Motian have teamed up to form the Trio 2000, which is scheduled to come amaze Porgy-goers on 1 April (a tip for long- range planners!). Steve Swallow is a musicians' musician who has worked with such different people as Paul Bley, Jimmy Giuffre, George Russell (with Eric Dolphy), Art Farmer, Joao Gilberto, Stan Getz and Benny Goodman. In 1970, he changed from acoustic to electric bass and began his musical partnership with Gary Burton (documented on over 20 recordings), which has lasted until today. In addition to numerous projects which he organizes himself, he participates in almost all of Carla Bley's enterprises. A continuation of the well-loved and well-frequented series: The Great American Songbook! CH
