Tango Nuevo is the title of a wonderful 1974 recording by Mulligan and Piazzolla. Jazz & Tango Nuevo is the name of the ensemble led by the Carinthian accordionist Klaus Paier. Taking up the challenge posed by Piazzolla and others such as Saluzzi, Paier mixes this source material with his own compositions and elements borrowed from jazz (i.e. from Richard Galliano or Chick Corea) to produce a concert performance which is at the same time sensitive, atmospheric and exciting. Melancholy combined with improvisational temperament!
