21:00 Graham Haynes Transition

The little horn with the sturdy valves, also known as the cornet, saw the light of day in 19th century France. Subsequently, in its worldwide search for employment, it found dubious utility primarily as a military instrument, although Rossini gave it a chance to serve in his operas -- a chance which the little horn never really knew how to use to full advantage. The cornet's admission into jazz came via the role it played during the American Civil War and the ensuing period of unemployment. Constantly travelling in and out of music or pawn shop windows, it was used and abused, time and again, by fledgling jazz musicians, though it never really received the credit it was due and steadily lost ground to the trumpet, which was technically more versatile. Now, however, Graham Haynes is doing his part to set aright the historical injustice suffered by this little valved horn, by enlisting it for his musical maneuvers in the fields of Transition-Project Funk, Avantgarde-Fusion an! d Hip Hop.
