21:00 Global Theory USA

Comprised of 5 stellar musicians from New York, Global Theory takes you on a musical odyssey to places past, present and future. Drawing upon their vast collective influences of jazz, rock, r&b, funk and world music, their sound is unique and refreshing -- experimental yet accessible to all. Their material ranges from soft, moody and enigmatic tunes to hard-hitting, rhythmically explosive and harmonically innovative flights. (Bandinfo)

Fortunately, this David Gilmore has nothing to do with the guitarist from Pink Floyd. Rather, he comes out of the tradition of Steve Coleman's M-Base and 5 Elements. Recently, Wayne Shorter has joined Trilok Gurtu in the list of his contractual partners. Global Theory sees itself as a collective of musicians enjoying equal rights who, in the broadest sense, count among the top players in the NY Fusion Scene. Saxophonist Binney is one of the founding members of Lost Tribes and has worked with Medeski, Martin and Wood. Uri Caine is one of the few younger-generation musicians to have secured a contract with Polygram while still remaining an innovative force in his own right. James Genus established himself as the bassist for the Brecker Brothers, for Steps Ahead and at the side of David Sanborn. Drummer Rodney Holmes also has an impressive list of credentials, which includes work with Santana, Zawinul and Shorter. New York Is Now!
P.S. David Gilmore can also be heard on Thomas Lang's latest recording.
