Vienna is a city where South American musicians feel well... We know this ever since quantities of talented Brazilians started clustering around Alegre Correa. We also know that there's a large Cuban community in town - a fact that's become even more evident since Nightfly opened up next door (allowing us to sneak over during pauses to enjoy some cocktails & cigarillos and the night life around the bar). We've also seen some very good Cuban musicians passing through - a.o. Paquito De Rivera, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval and Gonzalo Rubalcaba - and well-informed night-people in particular know that Vienna also has its own flourishing Cuban music scene (with support from Austria, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela, Nicaragua & the Dominican Republic). Hector Café has put together a 16-member ensemble capable of taking a club that is turning drowsy around midnight & cooking it up into a steaming kettle of extra-hot Salsa. CH
