I have never experienced the simultaneous freedom, openness and absolute formal musical structural integrity with any ensemble as I experience with this particular collection of musicians. Each member of this group has the conviction to play what he feels and the intelligence to integrate their voice into the larger musical whole of the ensemble/composition. Joe Fonda ist der reguläre Bassist des Anthony Braxton Ensembles (z.B. im Charlie Parker Projekt) und der Pianist Stevens machte sich einen Namen durch seine Duoaufnahmen mit dem Violonisten Mark Feldman auf Leo Records. Herb Robertson muß hierzulande nicht weiter vorgestellt werden, spielte er doch seit Beginn des P&B in unterschiedlichsten Formationen von Tim Berne, Andy Laster, Sigi Finkel.... Das Fonda & Stevens Kollektiv besteht seit mittlerweilen über 10 Jahren. Ihre letzte Einspielung The Wish überzeugt jedenfalls nicht nur die Presse!
