"Every individual knows for sure that s/he is actually alone in this world. We all live in exile. Nature is silent but the people around us often are not. Hardly anyone ever succeeds in making him/herself understood by others. We all misunderstand each other. At times we make a few frantic attempts at finding love or friendship but then, in our helplessness, fall back on hatred which we think is somehow more manageable than love. But then we also fail at hating. We remain alone. And yet there is nothing more contrary to our nature than loneliness." (Egon Fridell)
Nicolas Simion has come a long way. And almost always alone. If you pay attention to his music, you'll detect the specific type of blues which lurks and broods between these lines by Fridell. Perhaps Porgy & Bess also came about only to help us overcome our loneliness; or at least to give us that impression. In any case, for the duration of this concert, Nicolas Simion will surely succeed in maintaining a high-power discourse with his public and the formidable musical partners who are currently accompanying him along his way. Beyond this, we must remain alone, although nothing is more contrary to our nature than loneliness. And this is why Porgy's holding this concert tonight, and another one tomorrow, and another one the day after... RD

"The mark of distinction of creative people is their total lack of respect; they say what they have on their minds, voice all of their observations and discoveries, without worrying about possible negative consequences, without any feelings of guilt. They reveal everything, to the right, to the left, to all sides. They're tactless. In sum, if we wanted to rephrase this in one small, clear, portable moral statement, we'd have to say: Hey, people. Be tactful about all the insignificant aspects of your own little life and times and incredibly tactless about those things which are really important." (Egon Fridell)
It's possible that Werner knew Egon and certain that Egon knew Werner. The first few lines of this profile of a creative personality seems tailor-made for Werner - a creative, short-haired poodle with a strong musical backbone, who determinedly goes his own way. And without any feelings of guilt. Tonight Werner is leading this session, to the left, to the right, to all sides. In the course of this evening of musical revelry, insignificant matters will be blown aside. A brilliant encounter with electrifying bass support, for listeners and newcomers to the session scene. Come experience Werner Feldgrill at Porgy & Bess - without worrying about possible (but unlikely) negative consequences for anybody! RD
