21:00 Session by Cornelia Giese The Horace Silver Songbook

"As it turns out, women have proven to be just as capable in many areas as any man, or even more capable. This is because they are naturally more clever. I intend by this, however, to pay them only a dubious compliment. Women are more clever and furthermore are more dependable, orderly, adaptable, and skillful. But the basis for this is their clear-headedness, their unoriginality, their absence of personality, in sum, their lack of imagination." (Egon Fridell)

Fear is cruel and disfiguring and fear is what must have laid behind Egon's spiritual timidity as revealed in this written ejaculation. Fear of originality, of personality, of the radical fantasies of a woman? Fear of Cornelia Giese?

With much depth of vision and sensitivity, Cornelia G. is setting out to interpret the Horace Silver Songbook. Silver created a line of new standards with songs such as Opus De Funk, Juicy Lucy, Sister Sadie, Senor Blues, Doodlin', Nica's Dream, Song For My Father and The Preacher, and developed a piano style which prompted avantgardist Cecil Taylor to say: Silver has influenced my conception of piano style the most. When I heard Horace, his playing totally flipped me..."
Cornelia Giese - and the word should finally get around - is one of this country's most interesting vocal artists. A versatile singer, she quietly goes her own sweet way in the song contest business.

The charts will be made available at the club 10 days in advance. Then nothing more will stand in the way of this long night of black sound... There's nothing even Egon can do to prevent it!

Don't be afraid of Cornelia G. - Come together! RD
