21:00 Session by Anna Lauvergnac The George Gershwin Songbook

George Gershwin had just turned 39 when he began to rock the jazz world with his songs: With "I Got Rhythm", he established a harmonic structure on which hundreds of similar songs would be based and with "Summertime" he created the jazz ballad genre, pure and simple. The impact of his works on jazz was great, although in terms of his gestics he might have resembled the classical composers more and although, with works like "Rhapsody in Blue", he would provide ample ground for confusion in the border zone between classical and jazz.
Anna Lauvergnac, who has studied Gershwin intensively, knows how to uncover the secret hidden in every good song -- in the synthesis of word and melody. The charts will be on hand two weeks in advance. MR
