21:00 BassDrumBone (USA)
Ray Anderson: trombone, vocals
Mark Helias: bass
Gerry Hemingway: drums
BassDrumBone has been in existence since1977 -- that is to say, for nearly 20 years -- and can easily
be referred to as a tight band. Moreover, this trio is made up of three individualists who together
can compile a list of extraordinary accomplishments: Gerry Hemingway, together with Marilyn Crispell,
played for over 15 years with Anthony Braxton and has been organizing his own quintet for some time
already (with Don Byron, Walter Wierbos, Michael Moore...); Mark Helias has played with Dewey Redman,
Barry Altschul and Don Cherry and has toured with the funk band Slickaphonics; Ray Anderson figures among
the best trombonists on the planet and has played with nearly every headliner musician. But in this case,
the main mark of quality is the way in which BassDrumBone merges technical virtuosity with incredibly humoresque playing. CH
