Especially for Sunday early birds, we're presenting - at this uncommon
hour - a "musical reading" of texts from Rainer Maria Rilke's
Jahrezeiten (The Seasons), together with the Theater des blauen Dachs
(Blue Roof Theater).

Pago: Viennese version of the Spanish word Pako (Lama pacos, or alpaca:
a domesticated South American animal related to the llama). Accordingly,
the name Pago Libre refers to the free llama, used here as a musical
Leitfigur. You certainly know from experience how the llama behaves out
in the wild, so I can probably refrain from giving a musico-sociological
rendering of the celebrated standard - Pako Libre or Anarchy of the
Mounted Sound. In other words: Not a lame event, but a llama event - of
a special kind. Come together! RD
Admission: AS 120
24:00 PianoNightLine Erwin Schmidt Trio
Erwin Schmidt: piano
Joschi Schneeberger: bass
Joris Dudli: drums
Vienna produces the world's best grand pianos (although the B”sendorfer
company has since passed into American hands), yet there are always too
few suitable instruments in the city's diverse musical establishments to
accomodate the large number of good pianists active here. This has led
to a somewhat arrogant stance on the part of the piano (and of its
owners) as opposed to the relative helplessness and frustration of the
players, who often must accept having the clatter of knives and forks
drown out the poor sound of their instruments. Erwin Schmidt has
overcome this helplessness, however: His playing has steadily improved
in recent times and is endowed with that singing quality which is the
mark of the specially sensitive and musical pianist. MR
