Mon. 7.Oktober
21:00 Karlheinz Miklin & Quinteto Argentina
Karlheinz Miklin: saxophone, flute, bass clarinet, Gustavo Bergalli: trumpet, flügelhorn, percussion, Marcelo Mayor: guitar, Alejandro Herrera: bass, Cacho Tejera: congas, percussion, Pocho Lapouble: drums
This week began under Carinthian domination (Winfried Gruber realized his first project in Drautal; after his second marriage to the owner of a hotel on the Wörthersee, drummer Dennis Alston is now engaged to the proprietress of a gambling locale who has resettled in Villadelphia; and Jamaal has also migrated often through Klagenfurt). Now, for a change of pace, Miklin -- the saxophone professor self-exiled to Graz -- is activating his connections with Argentina (home of Gato Barbieri). In so doing, he's proving, in traditional fashion, that jazz is one of the few universal languages capable of bridging even the gap between the rather ponderous Carinthian tempi and the generally-upbeat South American temperament. Miklin, through sensitive handling of these discrepencies, shows how natural and "familiar" such a synthesis can be, without falling back on the usual world-music clichés. CH
