In 1984, the press had this to say about the Satie program:
Only a few of those who rave over Peter Alexander will be able to appreciate the fine and bizarre sound fantasies of the Vienna Art Orchestra on first hearing (Yet Alexander was so taken by them.. that he invited Art Orchestra Director Rüegg to join him at his table.) (Graz, Neue Zeit)
What we're talking about here actually has nothing to do with Willisau. This recourse to Satie-inspired serious/nonsense casts doubt yet again on the mental health of certain jazzers. Even more so when, after Gumpert, the "Vienna Art Orchestra" made their appearance, led by Mathias Rüegg. Though he is certainly a likable leader, he came over a bit too much like Kurt Felix when he stopped to recite anecdotes from Satie's dada/gaga-istic life, between his "happy band" arrangements.
