21:00 Ellery Eskelin with Andrea Parkins & Jim Black
Ellery Eskelin: saxophone
Andrea Parkins: accordion, sampler
Jim Black: drums
"New York Is Now" is the name of the 1968 recording by Ornette
Coleman (with Dewey Redman instead of Don Cherry). Though it is no longer
very current, it still serves well as a motto for Ellery Eskelin. After
paying his dues as a supporting instrumentalist, this tenorist has decided
to pursue fame as the leader of his own group, rather than to cling to his
reputation as a flexible sideman. Jazz Trash is the title of his debut CD,
which also features Andrea Parkins (the sister of harpist Zeena, who will
appear in a month's time with Carbon) and drummer virtuos o Jim Black, who
produced an impressive recorded contribution to the ATSrian jazz trove,
with the assistance of Eskelin. Refreshing! CH
