Unobtrusive elegance and virtuosic simplicity pervade the work of the great Brazilian musicians, Joao de Oliveira Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Sweet melancholy, vague longings, gentle acknowledgement of the futility of human effort, all poetically embraced in soothing yet unsentimental, magical sound. This is music which has helped and is helping a whole population to forget its existential cares. By virtue of their original Verve production, this Brazilian duo -- along with the sound-sensitive tenor saxophonist Stan Getz -- won worldwide acclaim. This music, heard inwardly, has withstood the increasingly-breathless stampede of time and the increasingly-loud turmoil of the (supposedly) advanced modern world. Its deeply relaxed sound has kept all of its intense charm until today.

O Grande Amor - a late summer tribute to one of the great life sensations - So Danco Amor.

PS: Astrud Gilberto, who in the spring of 1963 just happened to be present in the studio at the right time, was invited to step up to the microphone and, totally relaxed, proceeded to cut what would soon prove to be a sensational recording début. Just like that, "The Girl From Ipanema" became her springboard into the world of top international vocalists. Vovo Sohando! RD
