21:00 Unstolen Moments feat. Helge M. Stiegler
Helge M. Stiegler: Recorder
Renate Burtscher: Voice
An Austrian wonder on the recorder (in German, Blockflöte), Helge M.
Stiegler knows how to tempt the most amazing sounds out of a hollow block
of wood. As in the Pressl composition, "Zisterne" (Cistern):
"In the notebook, 17 Juli 1994 is given as the date of composition,
along with a series of indications as to how the composition is to be performed.
The underlying scheme of the four-part work derives from a sound-and-letter
technique, based on the letters in my name. At the head of the series, Pressl
begins with a C# and the remaining notes in the twelve-tone scale are added
probably in a somewhat chequered fashion. The material is then further developed
using such customary means as inversions, sidewards crab-like progressions,
etc., but also by other processes which have been specified by Pressl..."

Understand?
Helge M.Stiegler is a builder (a.o. of Blockflöten), an academy teacher;
she lives, works and thrives in far-off Vienna... Tonight she will be supported
(musically) by the sensitive vocal artist, Renate B. Any prejudices against
this wonderful instrument that you may have accumulated during early music
instruction can be put aside. In the hands of HMS, we rediscover an instrument
that has come down to us from a time when delicacy still had a place in
music, in a program molded by contemporary Austrian composers (a.o. Kaufmann,
Pressl, Nußbaumer & Peschek) who are exploring the power and pliancy
of softer sound. Come together. RD
