Phoebe Violet 'Metapher meiner Natur' (paintings)

Ausstellungsdauer: 27. November bis 29. Dezember 2026, täglich ab 16h

Phoebe Violet, born 1988 in Costa Rica, is a singer-songwriter, violinist and multi instrumentalist, composer, performer, concept artist and painter based in Vienna. Although she received musical and artistic training in her youth, Phoebe Violet is largely self-taught.

Phoebe Violet began taking violin lessons at the age of 3 at the Instituto Nacional de Música de Costa Rica. She moved to Linz, Austria in 2002, where she continued her musical education in the Musikschule der Stadt Linz, performing both in youth orchestras, chamber ensembles and as a soloist. After completing high school, she relocated to Vienna, where she started working as a freelance musician while studying Architecture (University of Applied Arts, Class of Zaha Hadid, 2006–2007; Technical University, 2007–2011), Philosophy (University of Vienna, 2008) and later Sociology (University of Vienna, 2014–2016).

At age 13 she began writing songs, but it was in her early twenties that she formed her first musical ensembles. In pursuit of greater precision, she turned to composition, a path that soon led to collaborations with other artists and ensembles beyond her own projects.

She works primarily as a solo artist, driven by a strong interest in developing conceptual frameworks that inspire her compositional process. She has written, produced, and composed all the music for her five albums: The Rhythm of My Soul (2014), scored for vocals, violin, cello, guitar, percussion, and drums; Entre cielo y tierra: Parte II (EP, 2019) and Entre cielo y tierra (2021), both for vocals, two violins, cello, and double bass; Tú y yo (2024), for vocals, violin, and two cellos; and Suspiros (2025), for vocals, guitar, and string orchestra. Her upcoming album TOMORROW will be released in October 9th, 20226. Her album Entre cielo y tierra (2021) received the Costa Rican ACAM Prize for Best Album in the Classical Contemporary category, while her album Suspiros (2025) was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award.

Additional projects include the horror musical According to Eurydice (2013), for vocals, violin, and double bass, and the dance performance Agua (2022), scored for two singers, two violins, cello, body percussion, and double bass. Further information is available at www.phoebeviolet.com/projects.

Her versatility has fostered collaborations with a diverse range of artists and ensembles in the performing and visual arts, including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, National Theatre Company of Costa Rica, Burgtheater, TED Conference on Artificial Intelligence, UNESCO, Elektroguzzi, Petar Petrov, Dawer x Damper, reformARTunit, Jazzorchester Vorarlberg, among many others.
