J.Bernardt, the solo project of Jinte Deprez—known as the singer and songwriter of the Belgian band Balthazar—is back with his new single “Four In The Morning,” his first release since 2024. The song combines pulsating drums, expansive synthesizers, and distinctive vocals into a euphoric, upbeat, and at the same time atmospheric composition—manic yet captivating. “Four In The Morning” marks J.Bernardt’s evolution into an independent artistic project with a clear identity of its own and new creative ambitions. Written and recorded at 64 Sound Studio in Los Angeles, the song was created far removed from familiar working methods. Together with producer Paul Butler, Jinte Deprez embraced a spontaneous and open recording process that, in his own words, led to his most effortless vocal performance to date. The energy of Los Angeles and Butler’s free-spirited production approach shape the song from start to finish. On January 18, 2027, J.Bernardt will present his latest songs at Porgy & Bess in Vienna, bringing the next phase of his solo project to a Viennese stage for the first time since the new release.

“Four In The Morning” tells of a moment of particular clarity in the early morning hours, while deliberately leaving open the question of what emotional or mental state the listener is in. Jinte Deprez himself describes the song as unusual for his previous work and associates it with a sense of new beginnings and reinvention. Accordingly, J.Bernardt reveals a particularly spontaneous, playful, and lively side here, without abandoning the characteristic elements of his previous sound. Alongside his solo project, Deprez remains active as the frontman of Balthazar, one of Belgium’s most successful alternative rock bands, which has sold over 600,000 albums worldwide in more than two decades.
