Alex Deutsch '50 Years of Smoking Drums'

The drummer, who was born in Eastern Styria, never wanted to limit himself to one genre. In his rich career, which began in New York after training at the Jazz University in Graz, Alex Deutsch has also made a name for himself in this country as a producer of the finest dancefloor electronics. His love of jazz came in stages. Ultimately, however, it became the center of his musical passions. As a student, he had the opportunity to play with the American trumpeters Woody Shaw and Freddie Hubbard. This made an indelible impression on him. Deutsch went to New York and made a positive impression in a trio with Wolfgang Muthspiel and Peter Herbert.

Back in Austria, he made a career as the rhythm player in the dancefloor jazz formation Café Drechsler, which took him beyond the country's borders. A glorious side project at this time were his Gelee Royal sessions, with which he connected to electronic music. When he then entered the arena with the young and talented singer/songwriter Anna F., he was said to have midas gifts. And with his last band to date, Alex & The Candy Killers, he picked up on what he heard on the radio as a child: Schlager, when Schlager was not yet a dirty word. His childhood was also the origin of his fascination with rhythmic sounds. He was fascinated by the gentle "tk tk tk" when you put your foot lightly in the spokes of the baby carriage.Although it drove his mother half crazy, it actually became something like the foundation of the rhythm artist Alex Deutsch.
