... Actually, this whole thing started as a question: „what could we do for a ‘gran riserva’ release party?“ DJ-ing seemed a bit minimal for such a big release event ... dj-ing and some live performance, hmm ... we could invite some string players from turkey and just play with them ... yes, this could be exciting! But what to do afterwards? Playing a couple of tunes with this concept is very nice but how to keep the tension the whole night? ... Well, we could also invite some percussion players as well? Yes, our friend Sammy Figueroa, the guy who has played on a lot of major records in the '70s and '80s. But could we find the way to invite also Ahmet Misirli, the darbuka master? Wow, these two guys combined with the dj-ing and strings? This could be outstanding ... That was something like the first conversation between DK which later grew to having 22 people on stage in Porgy & Bess, one of the most famous jazz clubs in Austria. Musicians - masters of their instruments, respectively; Andrew Small - drums, dj Mango - turntable, Willi Langer - bass, Dinletir Türker - kaval and outstanding vocalists Ma.Dita and Özden ÖksÜz. The DK Orchestra became something like a „dreamteam“ and with all these amazing people on board it was not so difficult to translate the DK sound into an orchestral performance. We were very curious how all of these „strange“ samples that we've been using in our music, would turn out, combining strings, noises and scratches. Well, it became very organic, very alive, and it gave our music another colour. rough, unpolished and fresh. After long and exhausting rehearsals, the night was „sparkling“ and an anticipating crowd was waiting for us to hit the stage and play the first show, which was the most exciting thing that we did since we started playing music together. Beautiful!
We hope that these sparks and the DK orchestra performance will let you feel what we felt on stage. An exclusive experience within the DK musical universe. Voilá. (dZihan & Kamien)
Motto: No risk, no fun! CH
