Yitzhak Yedid is a sensational young Israeli based pianist and composer who has received wide critical acclaim for his recordings and performances. He has performed in major festivals across Europe, Israel, Scandinavia, Canada and the US. Yedid has numerous recordings, including a duet with the great American pianist Paul Bley. His compositions have received rave reviews in the major international music scene. His music is characterised by a totally original combination of traditional forms of Jewish-Arabic music with European classics and the vocabulary of jazz.

Geboren 1971 in Jerusalem als Sohn syrisch-jüdischer Einwanderer. Studierte an der Jazzabteilung der Rubin Academy in Jerusalem und am New England Conservatory in Boston, USA, bei Ran Blake und Paul Bley. Ein wesentliches Kennzeichen von Yedids Musik ist die Verwendung sowohl von Elementen der traditionellen Musik seiner Heimat (Rhythmik und Melodik jüdischer wie arabischer Folklore und liturgischer Musik, Mikrotonalität und nichttemperierte Skalen) als auch von Strukturprinzipien und Verfahren der Neuen Musik und des Jazz, die er zu einer ebenso eigenwilligen wie eigenständigen Kompositions- und Improvisationskunst amalgamiert. Gemeinsam mit Ora Boasson leitet er in Jerusalem „Swedish Chef”, eine Konzertreihe, die sich vornehmlich der Aufführung von Werken des Third-Stream-Jazz widmet.(wmg)
