Koolinger, the groove collective built around drummer Andi „Miami“ Weiss is a hip and explosive funk band comin’ right outta that old-skool vibe – think Funk. Inc., The Meters and throw in a little Eddie Harris for that soul/jazz thang and you’ll know what I mean. The way this rhythm section handles a groove is scary! – all that chicken scratchin’ gee-tar gets you inspired to get back down home on the farm real quick. Maybe its about the gooey organ and saving your soul at your local church on a bright, clear Sunday morning or then again I ain’t one to argue about the sound of that booty-groovin’ fender bass and those slammin’ gut bucket drums down at the club when I want to have a funky good time. Funk and R&B fans alike will testify that the baddest grooves are all about the ‘hook-up’ of the rhythm section and if there’s any truth to that, then these guys play like a pair of Siamese twins fully doped up, tuned-in and dangerous……they can conjure up deep hot pockets with just a couple of notes allowing space for the odd quirky surprise, support and guide soloists into even funkier terrain or just kick back and hang with the groove thank you very much. Anyway, if you dig the sort of band which can cut it at the local whorehouse and then hit it again at the nightclub and maybe even play a set at the local preacher’s BBQ, well... then…Koolinger…..check ‘em out!
