Norwegian trumpet player Mathias Eick to Receive IJFO International Jazz Award for 2006
Mathias Eick will receive the IJFO International Jazz Award For New Talent during the 2007 IAJE Annual International Conference in New York. A graduate of the Trondheim Music Conservatory, Eick as participated in a large number of groups in Norway, from Jaga Jazzist where he in addition to trumpet plays acoustic bass, vibraphone and piano, to Trondheim Jazz Orchestra with Chick Corea and Pat Metheny. He is a part of the Norwegian Quintet Motif (winners of Young Nordic Jazz Comets in 2001) and plays with the Finish harpist and piano player Iro Haarla in her Quintet and in Jacob Young Quinet. The IJFO International Jazz Award for New Talent recognizes an emerging artist whose promise is collectively recognized by the IJFO members and IAJE. The award is intended to provide a catalyst for the recipient\\\'s career, and includes a fully-funded international tour.
