„Spark of Being“ is an audio-visual project from Dave Douglas in cooperation with experimental filmmaker Bill Morrison and is a re-interpretation of the Frankenstein story based on Mary Shelley's tale. An evening-length multi-media piece for film and live music, will ruminate on the dialogue between humanity and technology. The film component will explore inventions from ancient to modern using raw archival footage and new material. The music will be created through a combination of live, improvising players in the Keystone sextet and computer generated sources, hinting at jazz, ambient and groove-oriented sounds. Greenleaf Music released the Soundtrack to the film in June and will have a 3 disc box set of the project out by Fall to support the tour. (Pressetext)
Schon einmal ging es um ein Kino-Projekt mit dem Meistertrompeter – damals spielte Douglas’ Sextett zum Stummfilm „Keystone“ von Roscoe Arbuckle. Der Filmtitel wurde zum Namensgeber der Band, die sich nun dem Thema Frankenstein annehmen wird. Gemeinsam mit dem Experimentalfilmer Bill Morrison kreierte Douglas mit „Spark of Being“ ein Mutimedia-Projekt, das im April an der Stanford University uraufgeführt wurde und ausgezeichnete Kritiken erhielt.
