Wow! What a treat it was to find out Trixie Whitley was playing at 92YTribeca last Saturday, February 19, 2011. Trixie comes off as a beautiful, young, talented, quirky musician. If you have never heard or seen her play you may not know what to expect. On stage as she begins to play an old soul slowly begins to take her over. A very deep, heartfelt, passionate sound emerges. She has energy and punch mixed with melancholy and desire. She is quite a package on stage. Trixie Whitley is the daughter of Chris Whitley, an incredibly talented musician who is a bit hard to define. You can see where she got her talent. Trixie is a singer, pianist, drummer and guitarist. Trixie also shows off her talent with the band “Black Dub", Daniel Lanois new band. Their new album is excellent. I hope great things are in store for Trixie Whitley and Black Dub. Im Juli 2010 hätte Daniel Lanois' Black Dub Projekt im P&B gastieren sollen – mit Trixie Whitley als Sängerin. Das Konzert musste wegen eines Motorradunfalls des Bandleaders abgesagt werden, und wurde schließlich im Januar dieses Jahres in der Arena nachgeholt. Und da schrieb doch ein Journalist einer Qualitätszeitung tatsächlich u.a. folgendes: ...Denn Trixie Whitley klingt wie eine Ersatzbesetzung aus einem holländischen Blues- und Biker-Club..." Das erweckte mein Interesse und ich engagierte die Dame im Rahmen ihrer Solo-Tournee. Vom erwähnten Kollegen der schreibenden Zunft, der ihre Stimme als "maniriert" und "mariniert" bezeichnet hat, erwarten wir natürlich eine Rezension – und zwar nachdem er das Konzert auch tatsächlich gehört hat!
