Sheila Jordan & Jay Clayton Band 'From bebop to freebop' (USA)

Sheila Jordan, Jay Clayton: vocals
Jack Wilkins: guitar
Cameron Brown: bass

Internationally acclaimed vocalist, composer, and educator Jay Clayton has performed and recorded throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe since she began her career nearly 50 years ago. Clayton’s work, which boldly spans the terrain between jazz and new music, weaves standards and original music, and integrates poetry and electronics to create a highly personal, wordless vocabulary that has held rapt audiences at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and the North Sea and Montmartre Festivals. Sheila Jordan’s uncompromising style was forged in Detroit and New York City clubs in the 1940s and 1950s. Profoundly influenced by instrumentalists and masters like Charlie Parker, Jordan has studied harmony and music theory with Charles Mingus, released her first album, Portrait of Sheila, for Blue Note, taught at City College as Artist in Residence and performed to countless audiences who remain transfixed by her expressive, non-derivative vocal artistry.
