Don Byron & Nigun (USA/H)

Don Byron: tenor-, alto saxophone, clarinet
András Párniczky: guitar
Péter Bede: saxophone
Péter Nagy: bass
György Jeszenszky: drums

In Europe, Nigun is the only group following East-European Jewish traditions within a jazz context emphasizing the spiritual and improvisational traditions of both genres. Nigun likes genre-bending. "Klez-jazz" is the best label for their music, and the creativity and the spontaneous spirit of the group is also very significant in their approach. Nigun has made three CDs and has concertized around Europe along with other collaborators such as: Steve Bernstein, Matt Darriau, Daniel Zamir, Miklós Lukács, Kristóf Bacsó and Mihály Dresch and many other greats from the Hungarian jazz and world scene! The band members also collaborated on John Zorn’s play “Cobra” in its Hungarian debut under the author’s direction. (Pressetext)
CH
