Maciej Obara: alto saxophone
Dominik Wania: piano
Ole Morten Vagan: bass
Gard Nilssen: drums

(Anna Moser)

Obara’s newest project is his first permanent international quartet featuring talented pianist Dominik Wania and Scandinavian rhythm section.

Dominik, known from the cooperation with the most famous musicians from the Polish jazz scene, is also a scholarship holder of „Młoda Polska” progamme thanks to which he studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston under the direction of Danilo Perez. This person has significantly influenced his artistic development and directed him at his individual approach, which in the connection with his classical education has equipped him with a wide range of improvisational skills.

These two mucisians are accompanied by Norwegian rhythm section that Obara has got to know thanks to his participation in the international project „Take 5 Europe” that gathers the best musicians from different European countries.

Maciej Obara International Quartet is a project that presents Obara's musical quest. The artist consistently follows his own artistic path, constantly improving his musical skills, working on his individual language and looking for for his personal sound. This time his music is completed by the leading musicians of Scandinavian jazz scene – Ole Morten Vaagan on bass and Gard Nilssen on drums.

Ole Morten Vaagan (bassis, composer) has created one of the most interesting bands among Scandinavian young generation – MOTIF featering the legendary Mathias Eick, the winner of „DnB Nor Kongsberg Jazz Price” award funded by Rudi Mahall, Axel Dörner, Fredrik Ljungkvist and Jon Fält. He has cooperated with a variety of bands representing different musical styles, from Balkan music to studio music. However, he feels strongly connected to the modern improvisational music, which is perfectly noticeable in his project Generator X with Audun Kleive and Christian Wallumrod. He has performed with some of the key players in Norway, like Tore Brunborg, Maria Kannegaard Trio, Håkon Kornstad, and international stars like Bobo Stenson, Joshua Redman and John Scofield.

Gard Nilssen, a drummer from Norwey, is an initiator of two important free-jazz projects: free-jazz improvisational trio called Puma and free-jazz rock band Bushman's Revenge. In 2010 Puma band was recognised by the Downbeat magazine and Molde Festival as the most up-to-date bands of improvisational music. Gard has developed his musical skills under the direction of Audun Kleive and Jon Christensen. It's also worth mentioning that Gard Nilssen is a establisher of his own small record label called Gigafon. (Pressetext)
