Fly Agaric (CZ/GB/ESP)

Jiri Slavik: bass
Zac Gvirtzman: tenor saxophone, clarinet
Francesc Marco: accordion, piano
Fred Thomas: drums

Jiri Slavik is a gifted musician who happens to play bass, great. He is pushing envelopes of rhythm, harmony, melody and timbre integration in the service to a compelling compositional imagination. (Mark Dresser)
Die vier Mitglieder, die sich während des Studium kennenlernten, bringen alle verschiedene musikalische Zutaten (von afrikanischem und osteuropäischem Folk über klassische und zeitgenössische Musik) in den "common ground" des Jazz. (Pressetext)

FLY AGARIC is a longstanding collaboration between four old friends, musical comrades and mushroom-lovers. Jazz being their common ground, they each bring to the feast an array of seemingly unrelated and eclectic musical ingredients (African and Latin American dance music, Eastern European Folk, Classical and Contemporary music). Their material is original- at times thoroughly composed and arranged, at times riotously free. The band commands a broad palette of sound settings, starting with the conventional jazz sax quartet and expanding into less well-charted territory through the use of accordion, brass clarinet, percussion and extended techniques.
