As one will recall, Duke Ellington was based in New York City from the mid-1920s onward, and gained a national profile through his orchestra's appearances at the Cotton Club. Though widely considered to have been a pivotal figure in the history of jazz, Ellington himself embraced the phrase "beyond category" as a "liberating principle", and referred his music to the more general category of "American Music", rather than to a musical genre such as "jazz”.
Now famous trombonist Paul Zauner – recently known for first bringing to Europe in 2010 this year’s Grammy®-winner Gregory Porter – will revive the very early steps of this genius of music and the musical genre of orchestra jazz he invented in the late 20s and early 30s in Harlem,
fusing Swing & Stomps with the Jazz instruments sounds to what became the typical “Ellington-Sound”. While the set-list of the show will range from the early compositions to the world-known Ellington-Hits and Standards it will develop into a night of dance and passion. No leg shall rest when Paul Zauner’s voluminous Blue Brass band will tune back in time to the famous “Cotton Club”-Feeling.
