Middleton/Oláh/Ramsbøl/Nussbaum (USA/A/H/DK)

Andy Middleton: tenor-, soprano saxophone
Kalman Oláh: piano
Morten Ramsbøl: bass
Adam Nussbaum: drums

Sometimes the stars align to bring the right people together - these 4 world-renowned musicians have played with each other in various formations over the years but never together as a quartet. Adam Nussbaum, truly one of THE drummers of our time, is the nexus connecting and creating this stellar band. Performing their own compositions as well as gems from the repertoire the Middleton/Oláh/Nussbaum/Ramsbøl Quartet brings together the USA, Hungary and Denmark through the universal language of Jazz. (Andy Middleton)

MICHAEL BRECKER: “Here is the sax player with the courage to pursue his own voice. Here is improvising and writing in its best form - really pretty amazing!”

"There is one soloist who truly stands apart from the rest of the crowd, and that is Andy Middleton.” Saxophone Journal, USA

“A musician’s musician, just like it says in books. The American living in Vienna spins fascinating webs of improvisation with long, drawn-out and intense melodies on the tenor saxophone that place him at the top of the international saxophone scene. Great music.” Jazzthing (Germany)

ANDY MIDDLETON is one of the very top-tier saxophonists living in Europe today. Imaginative and adventurous virtuosity spans an incredibly wide breadth of expression -- from fierce power to tender warmth, lyrical yet rhythmically driving, masterful and inspired. This unique voice as a player, arranger and composer has led jazz icons such as Ralph Towner, Kenny Wheeler and David Holland to collaborate with him.

MORTEN RAMSBØL is considered to be one of the most exciting and unorthodox jazz bassists to come out of Denmark, coming straight out of the Danish bass tradition, but with his own unique sound which has been described as being very warm, woody and organic. Throughout the year, a busy recording and touring schedule keeps him on the roads of Scandinavia and Europe with award-winning stellar jazz artists / groups such as Niels Lan Doky, Kurt Elling, Ulf Wakenius, Dena Derose, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Didier Lockwood, Scott Hamilton, Antonio Sanchez, Jeff Ballard, Jacob Karlzon, and Morten Lund.

OLAH KALMAN: Jazz pianist Kálmán Oláh, a native of Hungary, has gained international reputation as an artist who masterfully combines the elements of jazz, folk and contemporary classical music. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Grand Prize of the 2006 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Composers Competition. Renowned for his distinctive compositional style and his original approach to playing jazz, Kálmán has appeared with scores of well-known artists including Lee Konitz, Randy Brecker, Steve Grossman, Jack DeJohnette, John Patitucci, Tommy Campbell, Ron McClure, Stefano Di Battista, Philip Catherine, Palle Danielsson, André Ceccarelli, Paolo Fresu, Kenny Wheeler and Ravi Coltrane, to name a few.

ADAM NUSSBAUM is considered one of the finest drummers working today. He's played with a virtual "Who's Who" in the jazz world. Longtime associates have included: John Abercrombie, Michael & Randy Brecker, Eliane Elias, Gil Evans, Stan Getz, Vic Juris, James Moody, John Scofield,‘Toots' Thielemans, Kenny Wheeler & NHØP, as well as freelancing with prominent artists of every generation, being a major asset no matter where he appears.
