Jaroslaw Smietana Quartet
Seit über zehn Jahren wird Smietana vom international bekannten polnischen Jazzmagazin „Jazz-Forum" zur Nummer eins als bester Jazz-Gitarrist seines Heimatlandes gewählt. Wohl wie kein anderer Jazz-Musiker Polens, außer Tomasz Stanko vielleicht, repräsentiert Smietana derzeit die hohe und seit Jahrzehnten andauernde Kreativität dieser musikalischen Kunstform in Polen. Seine Gastspiele mit seinen verschiedenen Formationen genießen in Europa und sogar in den USA Anerkennung und Wertschätzung. In letzter Zeit hat er erfolgreiche Alben mit so renomierten Jazz-Musikern wie Art Farmer, John Abercrombie, Idris Muhammad oder Eddie Henderson produziert. (Pressetext)

MOZG club presents: Pieces of Brain „Crash The Car Daddy“
Combustible Improv from a British/Polish trio centered around guitarist and sax player Jon Dobie, who's played with Peter Brötzmann and Charles Hayward. „Crash The Car Daddy“ is a little too in thrall to its influences - Dobie’s label goes by the name of No Wave, one track is called „Ayler's Song“ - to completely take off, but there's still some deft and intuitive playing here, notably from ferocious double bassist Slawek Janicki. After the B-Shops for the Poor concert in Mózg club in Bydgoszcz (1997) John Dobie (the group's guitar player) meets the club owners Jacek Majewski and Slawek Janicki and finds out that they are musicians as well. After a long night discussion John leaves Bydgoszcz with a CD of Mazzoll & Arhythmic Perfection group in which Jacek and Slawek play. John leaves 2 CDs with his own productions. Soon all they decide to play together as a trio Pieces of Brain. Their first CD - „Crash the Car Daddy“ was released in 2001. (Mozg-Club)
