Thad Jones is considered one of the most important composers and arrangers in jazz history. He came from an extremely musical family, his brothers Hank Jones (piano) and Elvin Jones (drums) also achieved great fame. He himself learned to play the trumpet autodidactically and at the age of 16 was already performing with Sonny Stitt. During World War II he played in various bands of the U.S. Army, then made several recordings with Charles Mingus and was a member of the Count Basie Orchestra from 1954 to 1963, for which he also arranged. He then worked with Pepper Adams, among others, and in 1965 founded the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra with Mel Lewis, which was an institution on the American jazz scene for the next thirteen years. Thad Jones would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2023, reason enough to dedicate to this giant a sextet program arranged by Duccio Bertini especially for this ensemble with three fantastic, stylistically diverse trumpet soloists of contemporary jazz.

Joe Magnarelli of New York has been one of the world's leading trumpeters for three decades, working with the Lionel Hampton Big Band, organist Brother Jack McDuff, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Harry Connick, Jr, the Buddy Rich Band, Maria Schneider, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and Ray Barretto, among others. Stephane Belmondo is one of the most renowned trumpeters in Europe. He has lived in Paris since 1986, where he first worked with Laurent Cugny, the Orchestre National de Jazz ("Hommage a Miles Davis") and Gil Evans. For several years he accompanied Dee Dee Bridgewater and also played with Stéphane Grapelli and Michel Legrand, among others. In 1994 he was awarded the Prix Django Reinhardt, in 2004 he received the "Victoires du Jazz" for his album "Wonderland", followed by another award in 2006 for "Influence" with Yusef Lateef. Belmondo played at several "Trumpet Summits" with Roy Hargrove and Tom Harrell. Daniel Nösig is the leading Austrian jazz trumpeter. He studied in Klagenfurt and The Hague and now teaches himself at the GMPU Klagenfurt. He has performed and toured with Joe Zawinul, Sam Rivers, Adam Nussbaum, Karl Ratzer, Philip Catherine, Randy Brecker, Vicente Archer, Miles Griffith, Gregory Hutchinson, Fritz Pauer, Ben Monder, Jonathan Blake, Philip Harper, Wolfgang Puschnig, Don Menza, Marianne Mendt and many more.

The rhythm section is made up of three internationally renowned musicians who are well attuned to each other: pianist Danny Grissett, bassist Josh Ginsburg and drummer Bernd Reiter are among the most frequently booked sidemen and work with all the greats of the scene.

This all-star sextet brings the classic Thad Jones compositions back to the stage and presents with professionalism and a lot of enthusiasm energetic and swinging music on the highest level, simply "Jazz at its Best"!!!
