The Slavík-Noble-Clarvis Trio plays purely acoustic music that draws deeply from the jazz tradition and playing styles of the past. However, it creatively transforms them into a contemporary form, while pointing to the possible future development of this genre. The trio brings together the Czech double bassist Jiří Slavík and two musicians from the UK, a generation older than him, the leading English jazz pianist Liam Noble and Abbey Road percussionist Paul Clarvis. The album's title, Nostalgia, suggests that this is a return to the past, and a glance at the track list may confirm this. In addition to original music, you will find arrangements of George Gershwin and Charles Mingus songs, or unexpected cover versions of the world-famous songs It's a Long Way To Tipperary and Pity Love. But first impressions are sometimes deceiving. And that is the case with this album. The trio puts jazz standards and eternal hits into a contemporary context. (Animal Music)
