Markus Schneider 'More Ghosts in my Pocket'
In January 2024, Schneider's acoustic solo album "Ghosts in my Pocket" was released on the German label Iapetus. This marked the beginning of his serious artistic exploration of the acoustic guitar in an experimental context. The focus was on exploring different tunings, timbres, preparations, tones and electronic arrangements. The closeness, directness and intimacy of the acoustic instrument meet digital sounds, feedback and artificial spaces.
The current program "More Ghosts in my Pocket" is a further development and exploration of this compositional language. Schneider received a composition grant from the City of Vienna for this. Schneider shares the stage with the textile sculptures of visual artist Lilian Wieser - reifications of ideas and feelings that take place in the space created by the music, resulting in mutual inspiration and transdisciplinary collaboration.
Markus W. Schneider - guitarist, composer, improviser, singer and producer - works mainly in the field of experimental music, with a bias towards pop and jazz. Questioning the usual connotations of the electric guitar, he deals with alternative playing techniques as well as electronics and the recontextualization of repertoire and clichés. His solo work includes electro-acoustic improvisations ("Fragile Findings"), acoustic guitar music ("Ghosts in my Pocket") and the deconstructive song cycle "Widerspruch".
In addition to his solo work, he is part of the art pop duo 264 HOURS OF SLEEP with Christina Ruf, the improv duo Gnigler/Schneider, the experimental pop band GLAM (with Gloria Amesbauer, Aras Seyhan), Lukas Aichinger's jazz sextet AHL6, the noise band Ferro Taylor, the multimedia band Monza Blitz and B.and Fleischmann.
