Karl Ratzer's "Brazil" project arose from his long-standing friendship with musicians from three different continents. Their wide-ranging expertise and experience in the most diverse musical styles lend new freshness and topicality to the original compositions and reinterpretations of classics of Brazilian and Latin American origin, as well as North American jazz standards.
It is not the young lions with a higher, faster, louder attitude that come into play here, but the old lions with melodic wisdom of age, coupled with a still bubbling joy of playing. Ratzer's long-standing rhythm section with Peter Herbert on bass and Howard Curtis on drums is joined by singer, guitarist and composer Yta Moreno, who was born in Rio de Janeiro and lives in Vienna, supported by the two world-class percussionists Fred Mascavo and Ricardo Mateus as well as Andreas Werth on organ.
"Brazil" shows how a confident Viennese master guitarist, focused on the essentials, is also completely in his element in Brazilian music. Together, they embark on a musical journey around the world that focuses on what unites us across all borders and makes soul ties audible in the most beautiful way. It is danceable music to boot - with depth at the highest level! (Press release)
