Tanaka Kiekie Chikati (ZIM)

Tanaka Kiekie Chikati: percussion

We start the live-stream (real time, stream is not on demand!) about 1/2 h before the show starts. By clicking on "Now Live" a window opens, where you can watch the concert free of charge and without any registration. If you want, you can support this project with "Pay as you wish". Thank you & welcome to the real & virtual club!

Tanaka is a percussionist, gwenyambira player and songwriter from Harare, Zimbabwe. She uses her craft to celebrate African culture as most of her compositions are proudly written in her native Shona language. These themes are evident in her debut EP MIDZI (the Shona word for roots), which reflects on the experience of living in the diaspora and the resilience that comes from that experience. She is currently working on her senior thesis in Music and African and African American Studies at Dartmouth College, where she demonstrates her versatility as a percussionist in the Coast Jazz Ensemble at Dartmouth College, of which she has been a member since 2021, and explores free jazz and improvisation.
