Portrait Matthias Loibner 'irr/licht'

Sarvin Hazin: kamancheh
Matthias Loibner: hurdy gurdy, electronic
Manu Mitterhuber: ambisonics fx

irr/licht
(loco - span.: mad, insane)

The sound space that Sarvin Hazin, Matthias Loibner and Manu Mitterhuber create with kamancheh, hurdy-gurdy and Ambisonics effects is inspired by the stories “Aufzeichnungen aus dem Irrenhaus” by Christine Lavant and ‘Three Drops of Blood’ by Sadegh Hedayat – both about stays in psychiatric clinics in the 1930s.
Where harsh and delicate sounds and eternal melodies of pain and despair - but also of idyll or moments of clarity and peace - spin in circles like thoughts, a sonic spiral is created for immersion in another, individual reality.

Sarvin Hazin, classically trained violinist and chamber musician, is familiar with Iranian and Kurdish musical traditions and is part of the European jazz scene, living and working in several musical worlds. Her involvement with traditional music is both a source of inspiration for personal and authentic sounds as well as a mission of constant reinvention and translation of musical languages.

Matthias Loibner is taking a permanent tour with his hurdy-gurdy (Drehleier, vielle à roue, ghironda) through various regions, times and musical genres across the world. As an artist much in demand of extraordinary and unusual projects he is collecting the impressions of his travels, encounters and observations in the sound of the hurdy-gurdy, hereby generating timeless musical impressions loaded from a big repertoire between classical, electronic, tradition and imagination.

Manu Mitterhuber works as a live-musician in improvised, experimental and pop music, as a sounddesigner and composer for contemporary dance and theater and as a music producer for various bands and projects. In 2019 he co-founded the OTTO Kulturgenossenschaft, a participatory initiative for communal cultural needs in Ottensheim, that developes and runs a concert venue (Alter Bauhof). A growing interest in delivering sound to a live audience and the combination of analytical and artistic skills in acoustics, electronics and composition lead to the OTTOsonics project he initiated in 2021. ‎
