Ming Wang & Isabella Forciniti & Thomas K. Berghammer 'Hybrids'

Ming Wang: guzheng, pipa
Isabella Forciniti: electronics
Thomas K. Berghammer: trumpet

The trio's unique sound is the result of merging distinctive timbres with contemporary textures, creating a fascinating blend of acoustic and electronic resonance. This blend results in a complex and dynamic music that embodies spontaneity, tension and fragile beauty.

This trio explores the boundaries between acoustic and electronic resonance. By combining traditional and electronic instruments and elements, they create rich, striking sounds that are both captivating and stimulating. This approach allows them to create a wide spectrum of frequencies and sensations of urgency and intimacy.

Ming Wang was born in Taipei, Taiwan. After studying painting, she studied the traditional Chinese plucked instruments guzheng and pipa at the Chinese Culture University in Taiwan. From 1989, she continued her studies in composition and electronic composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Prof. Dieter Kaufmann, among others. She completed her studies with unanimous distinction in both 1997 and 2003. Since 1989, she has been performing in Europe on the Chinese plucked instruments guzheng and pipa and giving musicological lectures. She has performed as a soloist in numerous works by renowned composers, including the opera performances of "Marco Polo" by Tan, Dun, "Night Banquet" by Guo, Wenjing, the solo concerto "Invisible Landscapes for Zheng, Percussion, Piano and Ensemble" by Chen, Xiaoyong and "Le Livre des Merveilles - Concerto pour Guzheng" by Tristan Murail (world premiere). She has also taken part in solo and chamber music evenings presenting world premieres by European composers. Her instrumental and electronic compositions have been performed at international festivals such as "Wien Modern", "Steirischer Herbst", "Carinthischer Sommer" and the "Beijing Modern Music Festival 2013". Ming Wang has worked for many years as a freelance composer, music teacher and performer, both in the fields of traditional Chinese music and contemporary and improvised music.

Isabella Forciniti, a sound artist from Italy based in Vienna, is deeply entrenched in a diverse range of artistic pursuits, embracing performance, composition, research, and innovation. Forciniti has showcased at prominent music festivals, including Wien Modern (AT), Skaņu Mežs (LV), Ars Electronica (AT), Unsound Festival (PL), Dark Mofo (AU), and CTM Festival (DE). In 2022 she earned selection for the SHAPE+ platform, a showcase for pioneering music and audiovisual art.
