Dutch pianist Michiel Braam has some of Erroll Garner's pixie charm, as he riffles through 23 pieces that nod at oompah bands, trip-hop, slam-bang free play and much more, dumbing nothing down, and giving everything a personal stamp. In 1990 Michiel Braam (award winning pianist and leader of the Dutch big band Bik Bent Braam) was commissioned by the „Jazzmarathon“ in Groningen, the Netherlands, to do a project about Thelonious Monk. He asked bass player Wilbert De Joode and percussionist Michael Vatcher to interpret Monk's compositions. Press and audience alike were impressed by the trio’s transparent way of improvising. The lightning-quick interaction connects the music of Monk with non-harmonic improvisation within a broad range of dynamics. (Pressetext)

Reijseger/Sylla/Gueye „Système D“
Etwas mehr als fünfzehn Jahre sind es her, als die Band Senemali aus Dakar nach Europa kam. Eines ihrer Mitglieder, der Sänger und Perkussionist Mola Sylla, blieb in Holland, fand Anschluss an die dortige freie Szene. Han Bennink und Tristan Honsinger gehörten zu den ersten Partnern. Seit einiger Zeit tourt Sylla mit Cellist Ernst Reijseger, einem weiteren verrückten Huhn des Amsterdamer ICP-Stalles. Ihre gemeinsam mit Serigne C. M. Gueye eingespielte CD „Janna“ erzählt mit schlicht verzaubernden Rhythmen vom Alltag in Syllas Heimat Senegal und Syllas neuem Leben zwischen den Kulturen.
