Família Pádua 5teto (BRA/A)
Antonio de Padua: trumpet, guitar
Roberta Karin: percussion, vocals
Joao Vitor: flute, vocals
Clemens Gigacher: bass
Christian Lettner: drums
On their debut album Saudação (Unit Records), the Vienna-based group Família Pádua brings together rhythms and sounds from Brazil with those of European jazz—and does so in an exceptionally beautiful way.
Well, Família Pádua isn't really a newcomer. The band was founded 16 years ago in Brazil by musicians Antônio de Pádua (trumpet, cavaquinho, and seven-string guitar), his wife Roberta Karin (vocals, drums), their son João Vítor (flute), and their eldest son Matheus Jardim (drums). The aim of the family band was to bring the stylistic diversity inherent in Brazilian music to people outside South America. The family has been living in Austria for several years now, where they have met many musicians who support them in their endeavor to make the music of their country known.
