The birthplaces of these three exceptional musicians reflect their international backgrounds. Their common link: the Vienna Art Orchestra, of which all three were members at different times. Arkady Shilkloper masters an impressive range of wind instruments—from the French horn to the alphorn and didgeridoo. As a former member of the Bolshoi Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic, as well as a co-founder of the “Moscow Art Trio,” he is considered a pioneer of modern playing techniques such as multiphonics and circular breathing on the French horn and alphorn. Jon Sass, a world-renowned tuba player, is known for his distinctive sound and stylistic versatility. He moves with ease between jazz, classical, and world music and has performed with greats such as Peter Erskine, Vince Mendoza, Ray Anderson, and ensembles of the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras.

Wolfgang Puschnig, co-founder of the Vienna Art Orchestra, is one of Europe’s most distinguished saxophonists. His musical roots range from Coltrane and Dolphy to Asian music. As a stylist who crosses boundaries, he has founded numerous ensembles and is a sought-after guest musician in international projects.

With 3 HORNS, the three musicians are launching a new project—virtuoso, experimental, and open to pushing sonic boundaries. A trio of the highest caliber.
