…nimbleness, light sound and bursts of raw emotion recalling the 50s cool school as well as the Coltrane quartet. (John Fordham, The Guardian)
Award-winning Saxophonist, composer, bandleader and innovator Camilla George makes a return as she joins forces with the mighty Blue Lab Beats, who have created an inspired deep Afro-house remix of Camilla’s track ‘Abasi Isang’, which comes out September 13th on Eternal Source Of Light/!K7 Music.
British-Nigerian alto saxophonist and composer Camilla George has established a sound that is a hypnotising blend of Afrofuturism, hip hop and jazz, with a politically minded subtext that has a powerful connection to her Nigerian heritage. Her band lineups are pulled from some of the hottest young players of London’s jazz scene and her shows have a strong cross-genre appeal. Recent triumphs include winning Best Jazz Act 2023 at the Urban Music Awards and being dubbed an ‘undoubted star’ by Mojo Magazine.
Her third studio album, ‘Ibio-Ibio’, was released September 2022 and is a tribute to her tribe the Ibibio people of South Eastern Coastal Nigeria. The album features an incredible lineup, including Daniel Casimir, Sarah Tandy, Winton Clifford, Renato Paris, Sheila Maurice-Grey, Rosie Turton, Shirley Tetteh, hip hop drummer, Daru Jones, Birmingham based rapper, Lady Sanity and Sam Jones.
