The formation of Playbackdolls was already predestined when Tini Trampler and Stephan Sperlich found themselves sitting across from each other late one night in a dubious establishment sometime in 2009, and their respective hats fell in love with one another. Naturally, a band was formed. Playbackdolls blend vaudeville and electronic music, blues and industrial, Slavic folklore and rumbling rock à la Tom Waits, ragtime and new wave into highly emotional and danceable songs. While musically roaming brazenly across genres, the Playbackdolls’ sound remains unmistakable: thanks to their unusual lineup of electronics, accordion, trumpet, and guitar, and to the unique voice of Tini Trampler, who effortlessly shifts between radiant diva, smoky chansonette, and agitational punk diva.
