With The Rose of Battle, Irish-Austrian bassist, composer, and Berklee College of Music faculty member Ciara Moser presents an 9-track album project that fuses Irish folk traditions with the expressive power of modern jazz and the sound-world of fusion. Drawing inspiration from texts by W. B. Yeats, Eavan Boland, Patrick Kavanagh, and Anthony Raftery, the music unfolds as a narrative-driven sound world—rooted in melody, rhythm, and storytelling.
The album reflects Moser’s perspective as a blind artist while exploring themes of empowerment, artistic independence, feminism, and cultural heritage. Featuring international guests such as Nate Smith, Charlie Hunter, Chris Potter, Michael McGoldrick and Nicole McCabe, The Rose of Battle weaves Irish fiddle and flute together with trumpet, saxophones, vocals, guitar, keyboards, drums, and percussion—creating a dynamic, contemporary voice that bridges tradition and innovation.
