After many years on the music scene, I have come to certain conclusions and am drawn more and more to chamber music functioning because of the extraordinary talents and virtuosity of my colleagues. The exploration of „musical architecture“ and the intimate communication with each member of the ensemble is a great challenge for composition and performance. The results should be esthetically interesting and stimulating for the concert “experience” (performer and audience). My object is to go as far as I can into the tradition and practice of string playing and to bring my findings to the music at hand. My interest lies in improvised European Music, Jazz, New Contemporary Composition and Performance. It’s a lifelong work in progress. (Kent Carter)
Das Kent Carter String Trio gilt als eines der ersten Streichertrios im Jazz. Es trat erstmals 1983 auf, damals noch in anderer Besetzung mit dem Portugiesen Carlos Zingaro und dem Franzosen Francois Dreno, und sorgte durch seine Mischung aus jazziger Kammermusik und freier Improvisation für Aufmerksamkeit. Tourneen durch Frankreich, der DDR, Nord und Osteuropa schlossen sich an. Durch die Kombination von Violine, Bratsche und Kontrabass zählt das Kent Carter String Trio bis heute zu den besonders reizvollen Raritäten der Szene. Seine Mitglieder sind Katrin Mickiewicz und Albrecht Maurer. Beide sind hierzulande keine Unbekannten. Der Kölner Geiger Albrecht Maurer ist sowohl bekannt durch eigene Formationen wie durch seine Mitwirkung in Projekten z.B. von Norbert Stein. Katrin Mickiewicz trat besonders mit ihrer Gruppe Disguise in Erscheinung, mit der sie den JazzArts Preis 2003 gewann. (Pressetext)
