Ab Baars Trio & Ken Vandermark (NL/USA)

Ab Baars: tenor saxophone, clarinet
Ken Vandermark: tenor saxophone, clarinet
Wilbert de Joode: bass
Martin van Duynhoven: drums

Through the years Ken Vandermark and I have met many times. Short meetings, but always something to talk about. We once played together, in Chicago at the Empty Bottle in a quartet with two drummers: Han Bennink and Hamid Drake. We managed to \\\'survive\\\' the drums and made some great music that night. I love his energy, his unpolished way of playing both on tenor and clarinet, and his compositions, small and to the point; a clear and bold statement. The sound of two tenors has always impressed me; the beautiful and singing sound of a unison line or a line played in thirds... we have some great examples in tenor-history, especially from Chicago. Thought it was about time to invite Ken and do some playing together with my trio. Two tenors or two clarinets and all that is in between plus a great rhythm section, Wilbert de Joode bass and Martin van Duynhoven drums. Ken and I will both add original compositions to the program. Looking forward (Ab Baars)
