The Norwegian soundpuzzler continues his fusion of jazz, ambient and club-sounds. Nils Petter Molvær was the first and most successful of all the Norwegian musicians who in the late 90s caused a fuss with their sensational bridge between jazz and electronic club music. The trumpeter, keyboarder and computer nerd is equally influenced of the ambient pioneering of Brian Eno as of the fusion experiments of Miles Davis’ In a Silent Way-phase. Also his lyrical, straight trumpet play resembles Davis. He is furthermore grounded in a most Norwegian tradition of musical landscape painting, which musicians as guitarist Terje Rypdal and (more accessible and popular) Jan Garbarek have coined. Eight years have already passed since Molvær’s worldwide celebrated debut Khmer, his music can’t in other words count on a novelty bonus anymore – but it doesn’t need to either: All of ER’s eight tracks represent such a consequent and elaborate continue of the vision, which on KHMER developed was. Nils Petter Molvær has collaborated with a wide rang of programmer – the outcome is a sensational diversity of interesting, unused synthetic grooves and sounds. They provide Molvær’s smooth trumpet lines with a rough, entertaining background, where the nocturne moods are dominating. A trip. Once again. (Pressetext)
